Coding and getting into flow
Coding is a sure-fire way for me to get into flow. JavaScript, web development, data in databases...
I get so focused on it that time flies so fast. I’m not that good at it. It takes me a long time to come up with simple code. I often start from scratch. I have to Google almost everything. I make lots of mistakes, a time sink to debug. But it’s fun. Figuring out how to solve problems. It’s like a superpower: I want to automate something, so I create something to do it for me. Nevermind that it often takes longer to code for a one-time problem than it would have been to solve manually. Sadly, I often give up larger projects before I can perfect it, so it doesn’t become useful for anyone else, including my future self.
Coding goes in phases. I burn out if I go too long. I might stay up super late a couple nights in a row. I don’t eat as much. I’m in front of the computer too long without giving my eyes a break. Sometimes it feels more like an addiction than flow. I with I could be like that for other areas in my life.
