Distracted during focus sessions
When I led a daily morning writing group last year, I was not very successful in using that time to write. Often, I would wake up right before it started. Then during the session, I would usually do my morning routine or catch up on email.
In my paid community, I host weekly review sessions. But I rarely go through my weekly review checklist. I might pick one item from it, and work on it for a few minutes. But the rest of the time is spent doing other things on my computer, possibly productive, but not reviewing.
For the past month, I’ve been trying out Caveday. They offer group focus sessions throughout the day that can be registered for at anytime. At first, I was doing well in them and successfully focused on a specific monotask. But there is not enough accountability, and I have been getting distracted during them. Today, I only spent 30 minutes out of 3 hours working on the Chinese homework that I’m behind on.
Today, I had the “brilliant” idea to start my own group of accountabilibuddies. I posted on Reddit to find other people to join. We’ll see if this goes any better. The difference this time is that I won’t just be hosting the sessions, but having everyone clarify exactly what each of us will be working on, with specific, measurable, and achievable tasks.
