Game night

Game night
Tonight, I went to a family friends’ house for game night. They have a large board and card game collection. I played 6 different games with them. I didn’t win any of them. They were all new to me. But it was a lot of fun.
Besides the other adults there around my age, there were 3 kids there too, ranging from 12-16 years old. Somehow, they were pretty good at the games. It could have been because of how much chance were involved in the games, and they got lucky. I’d like to think strategy-wise, I’m smarter. But really, it all comes down to how wired the neural connections are with playing these kinds of games, and knowing the rules. I remember being better than my dad at video games when I was a teen. Time put in to experiencing it translates directly to skill level.
It also made me feel old, comparing our ages. Playing the games with everyone, we felt equal regardless of the difference in age. But I could be one of their school teachers. I’ve been wanting to hang around more with teens and college-aged, because that’s how I still view myself at heart. With all these online courses and clients I take on, almost everyone is older than me. I want to maintain my youthful spirit, and just have fun playing games and hanging with friends.
