Money Mindset
If we suddenly transitioned into a post-scarcity society (like in Star Trek) where money was no longer a concern, how would you live your life differently?
I talked about this before here. This question has stumped me for a long time. It’s hard to even consider when stuck in a scarcity mindset. It wasn’t until the past couple of months, after some significant crypto profits, that I was able to seriously imagine this as a possibility. My answer is still fuzzy, but it would include spending my time trying out new, enjoyable experiences and developing closer relationships with family, relatives, and friends.
I want to try something that’s new for me, experimenting with an abundance mindset: giving instead of always receiving. I’ve had a bit of a negative mindset about money my whole life, stemming from my parents’ relationship with money. I’ve always been kind of stingy, spending more time trying to get the best deal on Amazon, rather than any of the many more meaningful uses of that time.
When I visited Japan, people were so kind to me, treating me for meals, taking me places, etc. Now I’m in a position where I can pay this forward. And that’s what I want to start doing.
I want to have fun with people without making them worry about anything financially for a day. I wouldn’t want this to make them uncomfortable or add pressure on them, like making them feel obligated to pay me back in some way. Instead, they can pay it forward to someone else when the time is right or they’ve crossed a threshold of wealth where they won’t have to think twice.
