My daily tiny habits - long term (Part 1)
  • Foundation Training
    • This is a type of stretch/workout that strengthens core muscle chains and decompresses the body to stand straighter, move better, and relieve back pain (which I don't have, but would like to prevent). I started out doing the video exercises that are available with a website subscription, but for the most part, I've been doing one minute every day. I've been doing this since August 2019 as part of my first keystone habit in the Habit Builder Challenge.
  • Meditation
    • I used to use the Waking Up app and did 10-minute meditations. That wasn't going to be sustainable. But instead of stopping altogether, I do a "low bar" of one minute. I occasionally do 3 or 5 minutes. Timed with Insight Timer. My streak is going to hit 600 days very soon.
  • Reading
    • I've been a big reader all my life. It wasn't until 2012 when I started getting into non-fiction and self-help. However, it goes in phases, binge-reading a book, then taking a break. A couple years ago I decided to make it a daily habit, even if it's reading one page before bed.
  • 100-word morning pages
    • Took the 3 pages of morning pages and made it bite-size, something I could knock out easily everyday. At least 100 words, could be about anything: a mind dump, exploring an idea I had, recounting a memory, stream-of-consciousness. Started this in June 2020 and haven't missed a day.
