Running Book Clubs
After the first CBC I was in, a habit building course, the alumni community continued on Discord. We had weekly book club sessions to read a book each month. At first, I was only a participant. Then when the course creator got busy, I volunteered to lead the sessions. Things went well for a few months. Then I got busy. I was also getting tired of getting up early every Sunday morning. I often crammed the assigned chapter the night before. This was early 2020.
I started another book club this year after an IFS coaching course. I invited other course mates to join. There have been 8-10 regular participants. We read one IFS book in a couple months, and now we are nearing another couple months to get halfway through another IFS book. I'm burning out again. We have interesting and vulnerable conversations each week guided by the chapter reading. But it's getting to be the same each week. I don't feel I'm getting much value from the books after having initially learned the IFS concept. And I want to get rid of the pressure of cram reading and getting up early Sunday morning.
These go in phases. Things attract my attention for awhile, and then I need a break. If things go for too long, I start not looking forward to it, and it becomes a chore, and it adds pressure to my life. So I'm looking forward to winding down in a couple weeks, and perhaps start something new in half a year. (I've been thinking about a "podcast club"....)
