Working out in VR
This new game for my VR headset has gotten me moving more. I added it to my daily habit checklist. Workouts range from low intensity to high intensity, and from 5 minutes to 20 minutes.
It involves punching, jabs, pounding, knee-ing, ducks, and dodges. It’s effective at getting a full body workout, including legs and abs, even though it can only detect and enforce head and hand movement.
I’ve been doing it for over a week, and I’ve been slightly sore every day since starting. This winter I haven’t been going outside and getting much exercise. (Although things are warming up here, there’s still snow on the ground.) This is something I can do in my room.
It’s different from similar-style music rhythm games in that the focus is on the workout, and not so much the music or the game elements. This means the real trainers are constantly pushing you through each session and telling you what to do. Others might find it annoying, but I find it motivating. It could get repetitive after awhile. But there are over 30 workouts, so at one a day, there’s enough variety. They plan to release more in the future, too.
